Hey Sippers,
The World Series kicks off tonight in Milwaukee (8:00 p.m. ET, FOX). On Monday, the action shifts to the Rays' Tropicana Field, and even the stadium roof has its own story.
Hurricane Milton ripped off the old roof in October 2024. The 24 new panels were made in Germany and put together in China.
The airlift was delayed when a volcano in Russia erupted for the first time in 600 years, closing the polar airspace. The city reports the project cost $58 million, coming in under budget. Now, two years after the storm, the stadium is hosting its first major event: the World Series.
Practice swing. Bears kicker Cairo Santos missed a 53-yard field goal off the right upright, but then nailed a career-long 58-yarder to seal the win on Thursday night. Bears 30, Patriots 24.
Double-double, triple. Angel Reese scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, making it a double-double in every Finals game so far. The Dream beat the Valkyries 97-71. Atlanta now leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 and is two wins away from its first title.
Spotted them 22. Detroit was down by 22 points to Boston on opening night, but then scored 23 straight points in the fourth quarter to win 121-113.
The NBA season started this week, and it feels like half the familiar players are wearing the wrong uniforms. Anthony Davis, for example, now has a Wizards jersey.
Anthony Davis finally made his debut as a Washington Wizard, scoring 34 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a 128-116 win over Milwaukee. Dallas traded him in an eight-player deal back in February, but an injury kept him off the court until now. His first game came eight months after the trade.
He’s not the only one in a new place. This offseason moved many of the league’s biggest names to different teams:
In Philadelphia, LeBron James, who signed a two-year deal in July, and Jaylen Brown, who came over in a trade with Boston, both made their debuts on Tuesday. They helped the Sixers beat the defending-champion Knicks 106-100 on the Knicks’ banner night.
In Boston, Paul George, who came to the Celtics in the Brown trade, scored 38 points in his debut—a franchise record for a first game. Still, the Celtics lost.
In Los Angeles, Walker Kessler, who played for the Jazz until July, made all 12 of his shots in his Lakers debut. Twelve attempts, twelve makes.
Both the defending-champion Knicks and the Celtics lost their first games, so one of them will start the season 0-2 after they play tonight in Boston at 7:00 p.m. ET on Prime Video. After a summer full of changes, none of the new lineups seem to be clicking right away.

Last call. On Wednesday, the Lakers beat the Warriors 127-105. Luka Doncic put up 28 points in just three quarters and sat out the fourth.
Looking ahead: No. 7 Ole Miss heads to No. 19 Texas on Saturday. Texas is coming off two straight losses, and everyone is wondering if Arch Manning will stay at quarterback. Who do you think will win?
